November Meeting

Wednesday, November 4
Springfield Museum of Art
Board Meeting: 6:15
Food & Fellowship: 6:30
Program: 7:00
Speaker: Sandy Maudlin
Letter from the President

The weather outside is frightful, but the WOWS meetings are so delightful! (Aren't you lucky that you don't have to hear me singing that tune?!!) But the sentiment is sound, I think you will agree. The meetings are delightful, due to Sharon Stolzenberger's great choices for educational and entertaining programs! And this month's program will continue to impress, so you will certainly want to attend! The meeting is Wednesday evening, November 4, at the Springfield Museum-refreshments start at 6:30 PM, and the meeting starts at 7:00 PM (with a board meeting at 6:15 PM). Feel free to bring a friend or two. I'll look forward to seeing you there!

Jim McCoy
President

During the workshop, Fealing will be covering some basic elements of watercolor painting, exploring under-washes and color theory while emphasizing shape, value and design. Fealing will teach you to relax and enjoy as you discover the spontaneity of watercolor.

Cost is $210 for WOWS members and $230 for nonmembers. Please download and fill out the registration form.

Program Speaker
Sandy Maudlin

Our speaker for the November meeting will be Sandy Maudlin from the greater Cincinnati area.

Over twenty years ago, Sandy quit her day job to pursue an active life as as artist. With a degree in art education, Sandy has been on an incredible journey ever since. She enjoys being able to share with other artists via classes in her home studio near Cincinnati as well as through workshops as she continues her art journey.

Early in her career she worked with traditional watercolor approaches but says, "Experimenting with watercolor on YUPO lead me into an abstract adventure with my art. Taking the chaos of a variety of shapes, colors and textures and turning them into a work of art requires both intuition and expertise in design.

'Chaos to control' produces some very exciting art."

Sandy has been awarded numerous best of shows, including the Ohio Watercolor Society's Gold Medal Award in 2006 and the Watercolor Society of Indiana's annual juried show in 2008. She holds signature membership in both these societies. She's an active member of the Greater Cincinnati Watercolor Society and served as its president for three years.

Sandy's demo for us will feature working on YUPO. I hope everyone will join us for a lively and informative program by this talented artist as she demonstrates the fun of painting on the sometimes unpredictable surface of YUPO paper.

Her paintings can be seen at http://sandymaudlin.blogspot.com
